IVC TAKES EARLY LEAD IN BATTLE OF THE TITANS

Irvine Valley College handed Grossmont College its first Pacific Coast Conference loss in over two years. 

The 11-10 team victory (IVC) moves IVC into first place to start conference play, however the two Southern Region badminton giants will compete against each other two more times before Regional and State Tournaments.

Grossmont College began the season with a dominating performance at home on Friday, February 23rd while hosting De Anza College (North), San Diego Mesa, San Diego City, and Irvine Valley College in the Grossmont College Women's Badminton Tournament. 

2017 Defending State Singles and Doubles Champion Yukari Naono emerged as the tournament champion with her doubles partner Michiho Kobayashi finishing as the runner-up.  Naono and Kobayashi also won the doubles tournament championship.  Freshmen Jazlynne Napoles from Morse High School in San Diego and Ryo Fujimoto from Tokyo, Japan were crowned Consolation Doubles Champions. Despite the early dominance at the Grossmont Tournament, Irvine Valley College edged out the Griffins in their first head to head competition.  The next match between these two programs will take place on Wednesday April 4th at Irvine Valley College.
