Grossmont men's and women's water polo wraps up conference season with second and third place finishes.
Grossmont women's water polo finished the regular season as champions, remaining undefeated in conference (5-0) until the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Championships held at Southwestern College Friday-Saturday, November 8-9, 2019.
At the PCAC Championships, the Griffins women lost their single conference game of the season (and championship game) to Palomar College, and by only one point (9-8). Prior, Grossmont defeated Miramar College 18-5 in the semi-final.
Grossmont women's water polo finished second this season overall with a total record of 15-6.
The men's water polo team finished third this season overall with a 12-17 record. They went 4-4 in conference.
At the championship tournament, the Griffin men defeated Miramar College 19-13 in the first round and then lost by two to Palomar in the conference semi-final (17-15). The toss-up for third place was between Grossmont and Southwestern, with Grossmont finding the 11-9 victory.
Griffin #2 Emiliano Castro continues to lead the state in goals scored with 128. He holds the second position for shots also (216 total). #3 Thomas O'Carrol sits at second in the state statistics for assists (75), while #1 goalie Daltin Collie holdsfourth for number of saves (261).
