Griffins Advance to Championship Game
The Grossmont Men's Basketball team is off to an excellent 2016 start at 5-5 overall on the season after playing in several very tough non-conference tournaments. This past weekend the Griffins hosted the 45th Annual Grossmont Men's Basketball Tournament. Friday night the Griffins opened their home tournament with a convincing 75-62 win over Balboa Prep. Freshmen Guard Bryce Parsons from Santee led all scorers with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Grossmont then played an outstanding game on Saturday night in the semi-finals versus L.A. Southwest. David Wheeler from Mira Mesa High School scored 10 points with two 3-pointers, while Josh Moran from Serra High School scored 11 points. The Griffins cruised to a 81-66 victory and advanced to the championship game on Sunday. The Griffins however came up short in the championship game losing 77-58 to San Diego City College. Ronald Blain and Bryce Parsons played an outstanding game each scoring 15 points and finishing out an excellent weekend for both. For their efforts Bryce and Blain were both selected for the all-tournament team. The Griffins will play next at Santa Barbara vs Columbia College this Thursday, game time is 9:00 PM
