Bio

Joe Parry has served as Grossmont College’s Co-Head Athletic Trainer since 2019. In this role, he oversees the health, safety, injury prevention, and rehabilitation of all Griffin student-athletes. Prior to joining Grossmont, Joe worked at the University of San Diego as Associate Athletic Trainer, where he was a member of the athletic training staff beginning in 2005. During his time at USD, he served as the lead Athletic Trainer for the Torero football program and also worked extensively with the baseball and women’s swim and dive teams.

Joe is a graduate of San Diego State University, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training and his Master’s degree in Kinesiology. His graduate research focused on electromyography, and his Master’s thesis was published in the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation in August 2012.

He is a Certified Athletic Trainer through the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification and maintains memberships in several professional organizations within the athletic training field. Joe has also served as a lab instructor at both the Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association and National Athletic Trainers’ Association annual meetings, where he taught various Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) techniques.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Joe serves as a clinical preceptor for the Master of Athletic Training programs at both San Diego State University and Point Loma Nazarene University. In this role, he mentors and supervises graduate students completing their clinical education at Grossmont College. In 2022, he received the Vice President Support Staff Recognition Award for Student Services.

Originally from Las Vegas, Joe was a California Community College student-athlete and a member of the 1998 College of the Desert Roadrunners football team. He later served a two-year church mission from 1999 to 2001 before completing his degree programs.

Joe lives in the Clairemont Mesa area of San Diego with his wife, Mandy, who serves as a Deputy Probation Officer for the County of San Diego. Together, they have three daughters: Ryan, Taylor, and Bailey.
